Family heirlooms are a part of any family, and are something to be cherished. It’s a shame, though, when people cease to wear the heirloom either for fear of losing it or because they feel that it is out of fashion. In truth, unless it’s absolutely ghastly, which we’re sure it’s not, an heirloom will always look good, provided that it’s part of a balanced ensemble. And this applies to what you wear at weddings as well.
The temptation of getting all new things to wear at your wedding is very large. You’ll have a larger budget than usual to splurge on yourself and there are a lot of things out there that’ll surely fit you perfectly and make you look beautiful. But wearing a family heirloom to the wedding is always a great, warming touch, and even wedding tradition calls for you to wear “something old”.
Wearing an old wedding dress can be a bit of a stretch. Wedding fashion changes a lot across generations and the dress might look very outdated – and not in a good way – unless you make some alterations to it, and that kind of spoils it. But wearing an heirloom necklace or wedding earrings, for example, is a great idea.
